Scrum Tale
Are you ready for Scrum? Continuous integration is new for you? Are you sceptic about using Scrum in your project? Would you like to test yourself in a truly agile team? You are in the right place!
How can you take this course?
Course description
Scrum Tale workshop is a whole day of intense collaboration between teams that create a crime novel together. During 2 or 3 Scrum Sprints, participants learn and experience agility and in particular Scrum. We work in two teams, learning the scaling difficulties of Scrum, transparently presenting the results of our work after each Sprint and following the Definition of Done.
Scrum Tale allows you to experience firsthand typical problems that developers, Scrum Masters and Product Owners often face in Scrum teams. The workshop allows you to understand why continuous integration of developed solutions and fast feedback loop are necessary in agile methods. You’ll experience intensive learning, exercises, cooperation and competition in a safe environment.
One-day Scrum Tale workshop is addressed both to teams working together on a daily basis (private workshop) and to representatives of agile teams (public version) who want to get to know agile and Scrum in a form of a workshop. During a one-day intensive workshop, participants will learn, through joint creation of a criminal novel, work in an empirical environment in accordance with an agile approach, in particular using Scrum.
The imposed framework and common goal accelerate self-organization. Participants during the workshop take on the Scrum roles of their choice, provide a real product in accordance with the Definition of Done, integrating increments after each completed sprint. All activities are interspersed with portions of knowledge provided by the trainer at a level adapted to the expectations of the group. Therefore, a few days before the workshop, please complete a short levelling test.
Scrum Tale Workshop is a good way to learn the Scrum method when participants are discouraged from learning using guides or have a problem using the Scrum method in practice. We do not require initial knowledge. We are pleased to conduct a workshop both in a beginner and an advanced group. We will adapt to the needs of participants.
The unique value of the workshop lies in the disclosure of the team’s dysfunction formed during the workshop in the context of product creation, i.e. the joint writing of a crime novel. The resulting communication and implementation problems allow you to experience transparency and supportive interactions that are constructive for everyone. Typical problems of Scrum teams: how to work out a Definition of Done, why do we need continuous integration, what to present during the Review and what to talk about during the Retrospective – are all simulated during the workshop sprints.
The rules applicable during the workshop are based on Scrum. We do not require participants to be familiar with this method. Depending on the advancement of the group, the trainer gradually raises the level of difficulty of the tasks that are the subject of implementation in subsequent sprints. Each workshop and all rounds will be different, based on the creativity of the players and their decisions. Participants together find new opportunities and sometimes even problems where they are not there! Many challenges and actions arise from these challenges, which participants then use in their professional work.
What are the characteristics of Scrum Tale workshop?
The main goals and the whole mechanics of the workshop are consistent with the pillars and values of Scrum.
Openness: Problems between players are transparently shown and resolved on an ongoing basis with some help of moderators.
Focus: Everyone is actively involved in the game and heard by others. We support ourselves in doing the right things in the right way.
Respect: The rules of the game are generally known and followed. We learn constructive feedback.
Courage: Initiatives are collective, spontaneous and give the game a unique rhythm. The development team decides how they will meet the requirements they received from the Product Owner.
